AB The perception of pain stimuli by nociceptors and their conduction to the diencephalon are approximately identical processes in higher animals and in man. There are however differences between man and animal as well as between the species of animals concerning mental processing and assessing of pain. The importance of fear must be taken into regard. At the moment a scientific assessment of pain and suffering in animals is not possible.
