TI Untersuchungen zur Stromdichteverteilung im Schweinekopf bei der Elektrobetäubung

AB When the animal is slaughtered, death must occur through anaesthesia and blood loss. The most commonly used method in Germany is Electrical Stunning, using two electrodes attached to the head, and passing a current between them, when correctly used this causes an epileptic fit which in turn causes unconsciousness. The electrodes must be so placed that the current passes through the brain taking the shortest possible route with a minimum of 1.3 Amps in 1 second. To help with the calculation of current density of the head of a pig, we use a computer program 'Ansys' and the Mathematical Finiter Element (FEM=finite element method) which allows us, using an anatomical model of the head of a pig to select the correct current leven, the free definable sectional planes show the current density of the head of a pig. The calculations carried out confirm the popular use of electrodes in the area eye to eye and eye to ear electrical stunning, because this allows us to calculate the highest current density in the brain. When the electrodes are set wider apart the current density in the nbrain clearly drops and therefore, electrical stunning is no longer certain. Furthermore, with the help of these models we can see the comparision between the nerves of the eye and blood vessels, which have a low resistance to electrical current, and the skull which has a high resistance to electrical current, and how electrical current passes into the brain. Supplementary to the direct results of the work is demonstrated the versatility of computer models using the finite element. When such models are constructed they can be used for calculations in areas such as for example electricity or mechanics. due to the free definable cross sectional possibilities we can see the details of not only the model but also the versatility of the calculated results.
