TI Massive Pulmonary Embolization of Cerebellar Cortical Tissue. An Unusual Fetal Birth Injury

QU Stanford Medical Bulletin 1956 Nov; 14(4): 226-229

PT journal article

AB A full-term infant, born to a normal, multiparous mother, died immediately after low-forceps delivery. Autopsy showed agonal intracerebellar and extracerebellar hemorrhages and numerous pulmonary emboli of cerebellar cortex. Arguments are presented in support of the thesis that a tentorial tear during birth opened the transverse sinus, so that cerebellar cortex was extruded into the sinus and carried to the lungs.
