AB Brains from 44 sheep and 43 cattle with CNS clinical signs not due to rabies virus infection were collected from diagnostic institutes throughout Hungary. The brains were examined for histological lesions diagnostic of scrapie/bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) and all were found to be negative. These findings confirm that Hungary remains free of scrapie and BSE.
