AB Glycoconjugate chemistry and glycobiology were rapidly evolving scientific disciplines in the 1980s. Their impact, however, on understanding fundamental biological processes was not immediately forthcoming. Within the past 12-18 months, there has been a resurgence in the field with major discoveries leading to powerful new insights into the complex role of glycoconjugates in biological processes.
