TI Vacuolated neurones in sheep affected with scrapie

QU Nature 1957 Mar 2; 179(4557): 480-1

PT journal article

AB Vacuolated nerve cells (neurones) have frequently been described in the medulla of sheep affected with scrapie [1-3]. Recently, similar vacuolation has been reported in clinically normal sheep [4]. Whether or not the vacuolation is directly associated with scrapie is therefore open to question, although in my experience the kind of vacuoles to be described later do not occur in healthy animals.
