TI Spongiform encephalopathies infectious agent and its transmissibility

QU Le Point Vétérinaire 1996; 28(N179): 9-16

PT Article

AB Spongiform encephalopathies are transmitted by a non conventional transmissible agent (NCTA). It is made of at least a protein called Prp. Its gene is normally expressed by the cells of the organism. in the sick patients, this protein has a different conformation. There are several stains of Prp, which differ by the length of their incubation period. The protein is mainly found in the central nervous system and the retina. Transmission in Bovine seems to be mainly done orally. To this day, no argument can confirm or deny the oral transmission to humans (3 photos, 6 figures, 2 boxes, 14 references).
