AB Mice inoculated with brain material from goats affected with scrapie developed a disease syndrome, characterized by symptoms of neurological involvement and lesions in the central nervous system. The disease was transmissible, using a variety of routes in mice, and cases of scrapie developed in goats inoculated with the mouse material. The agent was filterable, has a high resistance to heat and was demonstrated in the brain and in other tissues. The disease is considered to be a form of experimental scrapie in the mouse, and provides an example of the adaption of a degenerative disease of the central nervous system to a laboratory animal.
IN Scrapie wurde von Scrapie-kranken Ziegen auf Mäuse und von diesen zurück auf Ziegen übertragen. Die Infektiosität erwies sich als filtrierbar und besonders hitzeresistent.
