TI BSE - is it a health risk to man
QU Fleischwirtschaft 1995 Sep; 75(9): 1087-91
PT Article
AB Up to now more than 150,000 cattle in Great Britain have developed bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), but owing to veterinary measures to prevent its further spread the figures are now noticeably declining. In Germany four cattle imported from Great Britain have fallen victim to the disease. The authors describe the method used in Germany for the laboratory diagnosis of suspected BSE cases. The explosive nature of the BSE epidemic in Great Britain means that, in the light of current scientific knowledge, the possibility that this new pathogen might be passed on to man is rather low, but cannot be entirely excluded. The present paper attempts to indicate the factors influencing the probability of the disease being transmitted.
IN Die Autoren halten eine Übertragbarkeit von BSE auf den Menschen für sehr unwahrscheinlich, wollwn es aber auch nicht auszuschließen.
