PT Article
AB Examination of 35 cases of scrapie revealed neurological signs suggestive of both cerebellar and cerebral dysfunction in all sheep; this combination of neurological syndromes was not detected in any other neurological disease of adult sheep studied. No significant host-immune response in either serum protein concentration or in the cerebrospinal fluid was detected in scrapie sheep during the clinical phase, thus allowing certain bacterial and viral diseases, which evoke a host response, to be excluded from the differential diagnosis list. Accurate documentation of clinical signs and ancillary tests is the first stage in an effective scrapie control program.
